Vienna - a Capital of Culture

The cultural offer, sightseeing attractions and typical Viennese hospitality and charm that can be found in the many Heuriger wine taverns and typical coffeehouses all contribute to Vienna’s popularity in the world.

The history of Vienna goes back to the first century A.D. and a Roman military camp called Vindobona. However, the city owes its current look mostly to the reign of Empress Maria Theresa and to Franz Joseph, who built the grand boulevard of the Ringstraße.

At baroque Schönbrunn Palace, the Habsburgs’ former summer residence, you will find the famous Gloriette and the Tiergarten Schönbrunn zoo.

Vienna’s landmark monuments include gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Ferris Wheel in the Wiener Prater amusement park and the Spanish Riding School with its famous Lipizzan horse ballet.

In Vienna, the traditional and the modern combine in an especially successful way: here, the baroque and the contemporary stand side-by-side, and the city’s down-to-earth wine taverns (Heuriger) and traditional coffeehouses are just as inviting as its many “in” bars and trendy restaurants.
